To understand the human energy system, we must recognize that the human body has an energy field around it, and has its own north-south axis not unlike a large Magnet. As we move around, the angle formed between our individual “north-south “ axis and that of the earth is constantly changing, and this in turn either strengthens or weakens our energy field. The positive range is very small, vulnerable most of the time, and is a major factor affecting our health and well-being. In many cultures, since ancient times, whole systems of medicine and healing have been developed with the understanding that a subtle layer of energy surrounds and interacts with the body. For example, in traditional Chinese medicine, Qi ("Chee") has been described as a subtle energy flowing throughout the body, as well as all of nature. When the body is in harmony, this Qi flows easily and naturally, energizing all organs and systems. In Japan, this energy is named Ki; in Hindu traditions, it is called Prana ("Prawna"). The closest term in the West is probably Light, based on Christian beliefs. It has also been referred to as Life Energy. It is the energy that fosters all growth and enables us to heal.
What is energy? We all understand what energy is through our life experience. For example, we all report feelings of "high energy" or of being "drained of energy". We also often hear a person say that someone just wasn't on his or her "wavelength" or that the "vibes" were really negative in a certain environment. While we all are familiar with these kinds of statements, its much more difficult to actually define this vital energy. In Chinese belief, Qi is thought to permeate all parts of the body as life's substance and animating force. There is a certain mystery about this life energy, probably because it is an invisible energy, except to a minority of people who claim to be able to see auras. While few can see the energy field, many people have learned to feel the energy surrounding the body. One researcher, named Valerie Hunt, a physical therapist and professor of kinesiology (The word "Kinesiology" means "Science of Movement), found that she could measure the human energy field using a device called an electromyograph (The device is intended for medial purposes for use in connection with electromyography recording the intrinsic electrical properties of skeletal muscle). Her description of this energy is that it is much subtler than the recognized electrical energies of the body. This has led her to believe that it is composed of an undiscovered energy, one with a higher vibration than normal matter-energy. For most healers, this subtle energy within and enveloping the body has been taken for granted because of how it behaves, not because it can be easily seen or measured. Yogis of eastern traditions have described this subtle energy as a conscious energy, an intelligent energy that "knows" how to enliven the body. A key belief of both traditional and modern healers who use energy-based healing methods is that the energy field is more basic than the physical body, acting as its blueprint. The understanding then about health and illness is that both conditions originate in the energy field first and only later show up in the physical body. The rationale for working with a person's energy field is that by creating balance, harmony in the body will follow. It is believed that the body can be self-healing once the energy field is aligned. Because this energy field extends beyond the body, techniques such a Therapeutic Touch and Chi Gong do not require physical contact between healer and patient to affect a healing response.
The science of Radiesthesia, which uses Pendular instruments to Indicate different types and Degrees of interaction between shapes and the human Energy fields generated by the Flow of electrical impulses Within the human nervous system, and on which other levels of energy are super imposed: emotional, mental and spiritual.
Electroencephalography technique is used for recording and interpreting the electrical activity of the brain. The nerve cells of the brain generate electrical impulses that fluctuate rhythmically in distinct patterns. In 1929 Hans Berger of Germany developed an electroencephalograph, an instrument that measures and records these brain wave patterns. It monitors beta, alpha, theta, and delta brain waves.
Science and medicine have devised several ways to monitor brain waves. The main methods are the electroencephalogram (EEG) and the magneto encephalogram (MEG). The EEG measures the electrical potentials on the surface of the scalp or at times on the surface of the brains cortex. The EEG has many drawbacks in that it measures the average frequencies in the brain. The electrodes are separated from the brain for the most part by the thick barrier of the skull. This is like a scientist in a Goodyear blimp flying over a football game: he could hear the crowd roar but that's about it.
The MEG senses and records the subtle magnetic fields generated by the brain. This is difficult because each neuro cell "talks" to one another in the brain through electrical signals that generate weak magnetic fields, about one billionth the strength of the earths field. But by using the new super conducting technology the problem is being rapidly done away with, more and more sensitive magnetic sensing coils are being made. Using a super conducting neuro magnetometer placed near a person's head, like an antenna, it picks up the magnetic field emerging from the brain. This information is sent to a computer and an accurate map of the brains activity can be made and analyzed.
An aura is the most visible part of the subtle energy processes going on within all physical objects. All matter has an aura of some kind Auras emanate from all physical objects and life forces, as well as from many other energy sources. It is an electromagnetic field creating a force field which people have long known to circulate around through the body as electrical currents.
There are energy fields almost everywhere. The human body is a conductor, and has capacitance, which is how many burglar alarms detect you. But chairs have capacitance too. These effects dominate the small amount of electricity actually generated by the body. If you've ever had an EEG or ECG, you will appreciate the care that is needed to measure it.
