Many instances of paranormal activity are characterized by disturbances
in the behavior of electrical equipment. The
failure
rate of cameras, flashlights, computers, and lights and other machines
during these moments are beyond the range of
normal,
especially considering when several items fail nearly simultaneously during
such circumstances.
One common tool for the ghosthunter is the EMF detector. This device detects
fluctuations in the electromagnetic field.
Most
household appliances or electrical outlets do not generally increase the
fluctuation in the electromagnetic field (gauged
in
milligauss units) to an extent that it sets off the EMF detector; televisions
and computer monitors do, however, as do
power
transformers. Fluctuations caused by these items are generally static and
constant; they do not move around, and you
won't
find them after the item has been removed. In many instances, investigators
have discovered electromagnetic
fluctuations
in areas of alleged paranormal activity where no logical source is present.
These anomalous fluctuations are
fleeting,
and usually within the 2-7 milligauss range.
